The question

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I had rough intercourse 2 months ago (as a virgin) and since then although I’ve had my period, my vaginal area has been itching and now my vulva is swollen. What does that mean?

Signed: TeenHealthFX

The answer

Unfortunately, TeenHealthFX cannot diagnose over the internet. It is important to reach out to a parent/guardian and to see a medical professional as soon as possible. Even though you may have gotten your period, it is still possible you have been exposed to a sexually transmitted infection.

We would also like to mention the importance of practicing safe sex. TeenHealthFX encourages all teens to use [condoms every time they engage in any type of sexual activity. Condoms are only 98% in preventing the transmission of sexually transmitted infections when used correctly and on every sexual encounter.
