The question

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I am supposed to start my period today and I know what blood clots are. I think every girl.getd them on her period but I haven't had any blood come out, just alot of yellow mucus like in your nose with streaks of blood inside.it. what is that

The answer

Unfortunately, TeenHealthFX cannot diagnose over the internet. [Healthline explains it is usually common for a vagina to discharge a yellow mucus prior to the start of your period. However, if the mucus is abnormal to you or smells bad, it could be a sign of infection. If this is the case, we strongly recommend reaching out to a parent or trusted adult and see a doctor to make sure.

If you need help finding a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the  [Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist. Good luck!
