The question
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I’m almost 15 years old and I’ve noticed an abscess on the skin of my penis the past week or so. It’s been swelling more and more until eventually I realised that it ruptured and was replaced with a swollen red hole. Could I get an infection of left untreated; and if so, what should I do to prevent it?

The answer
TeenHealthFX cannot diagnose over the internet, however, we would like to mention that it is possible for an abscess to become infected if left untreated anywhere on the body.
We strongly recommend letting a parent or guardian know and get checked out by a doctor as soon as possible. The doctor will be able to diagnose and provide treatment that is necessary.
